Vedan has made a continuous effort to advance its research and development in the microbial field, to fully grasp the core microbiological fermentation technology. In addition, Vedan has teamed up with Japanese experts to study biodegradable high polymer material (biopolymer) production. In 2003, Vedan successfully developed y-poly-glutamic acid (gamma-PGA), utilizing glutamic acid as the base material. This breakthrough allowed Vedan to expand its core product lines into a more advanced market-biological materials. Vedan's unique industrialized production process has several patents pending in Taiwan , Japan , United States , and China .
Gamma-poly-glutamic acid (y-PGA) is entirely natural, hydrogenative , non-toxic, metal adsorptive , and biodegradable . Due to its many potential uses, it is an excellent substitute for chemical biopolymer syntheses that meets the safety standards and environmental requirements, making it one of the most important biopolymer materials available in the world. y-PGA products are basically divided into two categories, pure products and hydrogel and can be applied in pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, health food, agricultural and industrial production, and water processing.
